DUES
Are dues taken out of my paycheck?
No. Mississippi does not have payroll deduction for union dues. All union dues are paid to us directly by you, either from your bank account or by debit/credit card.
When are dues deducted?
Generally, dues are drafted on the day after payday for monthly employees. If payday is the 30th of the month, for example, dues will be drafted on the following day (31st/1st). The main exception to this is December: We schedule your draft to come out after JPS's payday before Christmas (usually the last working day of the month for most employees).
My credit card expired. What do I need to do?
If your credit/debit card has expired, contact a union organizer or the union office as soon as possible so that we can update your payment information. We will run a manual draft if the month's draft hasn't occurred so that your dues remain current.
I'm retiring. What do I need to do?
Contact the union office so that we can adjust things for you. Your union membership, once retired, is for life, but we do charge a nominal fee to retirees to help offset some costs (email blasts, etc). We would greatly appreciate your continued financial support as a union retiree. It's one of the many ways you can continue to give back to and support your union in retirement!
Workplace Issues
I have a problem with my supervisor. What do I need to do?
Step one: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Please see our article titled Documentation for information to help you properly document and store your documentation. Step two: Contact your union representative or organizer so that someone is aware of the issue. Step three: Complete the Worksite Issues Form. Because of the nature of worksite issues, we ask that you do this step after contacting the office so that we know to expect the form and can already be investigating your issue from our end.
